Moving house is really hard. I’ve recently moved across London and I thought that was incredibly stressful. Three months ago, after years of mentioning it wistfully, my mom finally made the big decision to leave New York.
This is where she lives now – pretty much as close to paradise as you can get. She needed an extra pair of hands to help her with the move, so of course I selflessly volunteered to help. Even though she hasn’t technically left the country, moving to Hawaii from New York is stressful (especially when there are pets involved). I’m incredibly proud of her, and think its the perfect move for someone as obsessed with scuba diving as she is.
We spent a lot of time at the Kona Brewing Company, which is our local when we are over there. The service is absolutely incredible, the beers and ales are brewed on the Big Island, and all the food is delicious.
We usually tend to go for the ahi tuna tartare – rice, topped with salmon and avocado – unless there is something spectacular on the specials.
The cocktails are also great, and while we seemed to go when it was slightly overcast, on good days there’s a lovely atmosphere. Does anyone else get hungrier when they’re eating next to open water?
One of the specials that I really enjoyed were the beef kimchi tacos. If they have them, definitely go for them – crunchy, tangy, spicy, it all works incredibly well.
We kept going back again and again, and I’m sure we will do for a while – I can’t wait for the next time I’m back!
