Winter Feasting at No.11 Pimlico Road

I was recently invited along to try out the festive winter feasting menu at No 11 Pimlico Road.

I had always written off the area around Victoria Station as a bit of a culinary wasteland – mostly as high street coffee shops and chains to cater to the travelers. Luckily, the team behind No 11 Pimlico Road, Darwin & Wallace, have brought the same approach to interiors as they do to their Richmond location that I reviewed a couple of months ago.

We were in the private dining room upstairs – the table beautifully set, and we were really getting into the festive spirit (definitely helped by all the hibiscus fizz).

Now, I love Christmas, but there can be too much of a good thing – particularly when it comes to food. There’s a reason I only have turkey twice a year – and mostly as a vehicle for the sides. In my family, you can’t have all the trimmings without it.

Every course of the No 11 Pimlico Road Christmas menu came with a little twist – something to keep it exciting. I really liked the cannelini bean soup with chestnut and truffle creme fraiche, and the field mushroom carpaccio with artichoke and truffle oil was also something I’d want to recreate for Christmas day.

The turkey was lovely, but I was really blown away by the Beer Braised Brisket of Beef (try saying that after a few of their Hibiscus fizzes) and the buckwheat and wild mushroom risotto.

Not being the biggest fan of Christmassy desserts (I hate mince pies and fruitcake) I was delighted to see all the amazing desserts on offer – lemon posset, eton mess, black forest brownie and sticky toffee date pudding. The Eton mess with treacle meringue was a particular favourite.

I really enjoyed my experience at No 11 Pimlico Road, which was made even better by the espresso martinis that magically appeared before us at the end. Simple, classy variations of winter classics in a lovely setting – and really conveniently located for getting to the Christmas party after, too. They start serving up their Christmas from the 28th of November – you won’t want to miss that risotto.
